The Sanctuary Mahi Whenua is saved Celebration 29 April 2018

Today was the day we had dared to hope would eventually arrive!
The day that we could rejoice that the Sanctuary Mahi Whenua was saved.

This afternoon we celebrated the safe future of the Sanctuary Mahi Whenua in the forthcoming Kiwibuild housing development in the Wairaka Precinct.

One simple sign = so much happiness!

No longer under threat...

This invaluable community asset will now be accommodated in future plans -
HOORAY!

A quick spot of gardening before our visitors and guests arrive...

Karine et Benedicte

Thanks to Unitec for the loan of the easy ups and we look forward to continuing our long and symbiotic relationship.

Sarah raises a glass, with Sinead.

Louise and Caitlin - some of our younger gardeners.

The Sanctuary still looking marvellous in the late Autumn.

Karine our Action Group Chair - justifiably pleased!

Stephanie, Mike and Riley - and their harvest of delicious carrots

Rose with Allison who is passing around the delicious 'No-Grainer' food.

Thanks to Tracey Collins for her beautiful music in the gardens.

Great to have local resident (and Albert-Eden Board member) Margi Watson come along to celebrate with us.

and with Chris Casey - thank you both for all of your support.

Alastair Carruthers (Unitec interim Chief Executive) with Trevor
- brothers in arms.

Alastair planted the Persimmon tree (cultivar Fuyu), with the help of our younger gardeners, and spoke about the challenges and steps required that allowed the Sanctuary Mahi Whenua to be saved. We are very appreciative of all the support and work Alastair put in to help protect and save the Sanctuary. Thank you.

Happy Gardeners, supporters, friends and family delighted with the result.

Simply brilliant!

Bev enjoying the moment.

Judy (centre) beaming!

And the second tree is planted, this time  by Chris, Margi and Brendan,
plus our younger gardeners.

So here's to the Sanctuary Mahi Whenua
- long may she endure and be a land kept warm.

Thank you, EVERYONE, who helped to save the Sanctuary Mahi Whenua.
